This tsukubai garden features the famous Yoshino River greenstone that has been loved and revered by Kyoto landscape designers for centuries. The space was first taken back to completely bare earth, and some pre-existing materials were set aside, later to be fused with new features to create this unique design.
Paving, pathways, natural irrigation channels and new plantings all serve to feature the Yoshino River rocks and the stone bowl that functions as a receptacle for water purification.
This was a collaboration with architect Toru Morita, who has great reverence for natural materials, recycling where possible, and taking the elemental principles of nature and geomancy into consideration.
